The world pulling at the seams
sewing on a new face
to hide what’s long since frayed
lips sewn tight
secrets contained beneath patched wounds
a mess of a man
meshed together

But not to measure
Snake
Haul my ass out of bed
Sharp mind
Forget last night
branded with its scars
a snarling monster in its cage
within the hearth of my heart
Snaking through the veins
till it’s tattooed on my arms
Scars
Cut my skin
And it’s like bark from a tree
I’m tough outside and in
All these scars tell stories
And every breath I exhale is a thank you
To the scalpels that have scraped
