Elastic Band

I have been found on wet pavements
The postmans loss, a new journey for me
I have been passed from pillar to post
Without too much kerfuffle

I have held together reams of quixoitic letters
Marred by time and bothersome quarrels
An acomplice to a man and his mistress
and I have been lost and found again

I’ve been stretched too thin
And sprung back again
I have gotten bigger, slacker
I sit, flung into a drawer, awaiting mail.

We used to find rubber bands on our doorstep, but not these days. Our post depletes – much like your stretched and thinned elastic band. Thank you, Matt – I enjoyed this.

Matt, the elastics are found everywhere! We unpacked a box of food that was donated and found one in the bottom of the box. No clue why or how it got there… When I was working I had a zip-loc bag in the break room to collect them. It was always filling up! I don’t think our secretary had to order a new box for nearly 10 years!!

Did you have enough to make a big elastic band ball?

Hehe! We never tried – we used the rubberbands to hold requisitions to lab samples instead of trying to tape them – held better and didn’t rip the paper when removed.

I love that you wrote about the lowly elastic band. We call them rubber bands here in upstate NY. In Pittsburgh, they’re called gumbands. Go figure.

Thanks. Where i am in the UK i’ve only heard them called elastic band. Maybe once or twice i have heard rubber band though. Nevet heard it called Gumband before. That makes it sound like something you put in your mouth to me lol

When I was growing up in the UK they were only called rubber bands (as far as I knew) but then slowly morphed more towards elastic bands as rubber/s became synonymous with condoms. Same for erasers.

This may all just be my perception of this change though.

Matt, this has a great laid-back vibe. I love how the elastic band just wanders through its little adventures—especially that ending in the drawer.
